Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) is the right person to be elected as President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, better known by his stage name D-Black has said.

2019 is an election year for MUSIGA and the race to replace Bice Osei Kuffour is getting competitive with some notable members of the organisation filing for the position.

Speaking on the Class Drive on Class91.3FM in an interview with Prince Benjamin, D-Black was of the view that currently he sees KOD as the person who can bring transformation to the music sector.

“There are some names in my head but if they are ready to dedicate their time and their energy towards MUSIGA and music, I think someone like KOD, he has been the artiste manager, he has worked with producers, he understands music, he is a TV personality and radio host and he understands the entertainment industry,” he argued.

He continued: “He [KOD] has been on the various fields, he has been the manager for Wutah, he has been the event coordinator for Nescafe African Revelation, he understands business, so, if he is going to stand or run for MUSIGA [President], I will be solidly behind him”.

Highlighting some attributes which, in his view, any MUSIGA President should possess, D-Black stated: “I think whoever should lead MUSIGA has to be a very selfless individual and have some business IQ and must be ready to drop whatever they are doing in their lives and their career”.

Apart from KOD, D-Black said: “Someone like Trigmatic, I think he understands music and has that kind of business IQ and this intelligent guy, Edem, as well”.

Reggae-Danceall artiste, Stonebwoy over the weekend prevented a man believed to be in the army from beating a fan who was just showing love for the artist.

In the video, Stonebwoy while performing at the this year's Avakpedome, a 4syte annual show which was sponsored by Kpoo Keke was seen taking the stick from a military officer who had wanted to use it on a fan who was probably showing his love for Stonebwoy.

The Bawasaba hitmaker quickly prompted his security guards to walk the military man off stage to prevent any fight or misunderstanding that will mar his performance.

Most often during shows especially an outdoor concert, some hardcore fans are usually seen chanting or climbing the stage when their artiste is performing. Many a time, those fans are either beaten, heckle or warned not to come close to the stage again.

Stonebwoy on the other hand, prevented the security officer who wouldn't have hesitate to hit the fan with the stick.

Some event organizers are most often not security conscious when it comes to event.

Police Announcement Of Tracing Kidnapped Girls Regrettable – AG

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo has said the police announcement that they’ve been able to locate the kidnapped Takoradi girls could endanger the lives of the girls.

The Ghana Police Service finally succumbed to mounting pressure from the families of the kidnapped ladies and civil society organizations who demanded the whereabouts of their daughters and on April 2, 2019 told the world at a press briefing that they knew the location of the girls.

But speaking to Joy FM, Madam Gloria Akufo described the police statement as regrettable.

“People keep saying they say they’ve traced them so why don’t they tell us where they are? They could even endanger their lives if they did that, I find it regrettable that, that information was put out that they had been traced. That’s alerting whoever unless we’ve taken charge of the girls, if you say we’ve traced them that signals those who are holding them and they could change the location.”

Unhappy Mothers Descend Heavily On Kempinski Hotel Over Failed Easter Egg Hunt Event; Kempinski Responds

A group of mothers in Accra have complained bitterly about Kempinski Hotel’s Easter Egg Hunt program that promised kids a lot of fun but the mothers claim delivered absolutely nothing.

Kempinski Hotel advertised an Easter Egg Hunt event for kids during the Easter festivities where they promised a variety of fun activities for children at a cost of 100gh cedis per child but according to the mothers, nothing the hotel promised was delivered.

In a long post on Facebook and Instagram, the mothers said Kempinski hotel after charging 100gh for each child not only refused to provide the services promised, but also served expired chocolates, dry cupcakes and mini burgers to the children, causing some of the children to fall sick..

One parent wrote:

“Not a single game was organised for the kids! We were still required to pay even though Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra Ghana did NOT honour their part of the deal ! What an absolute shambles !!!! And giving the children EXPIRED chocolates ! That’s a new low..”

Another complained:

“...The cupcakes weren’t great.. and not decorated. Perhaps the kids were to decorate these cupcakes as one of the activities?! They definitely did not have the cupcake decorating activity as advertised though which was what my daughter was looking forward to the most...

Sources at Kempinski Hotel have however debunked the allegations saying that not only did the party take place, but they also fully honored their side of the deal. They point to pictures of the event on their social media pages where the children could be seen engaged in all the activities promised in the event flyer.

In an official statement, the hotel said:

“Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast Accra acknowledges the receipt of a complaint during our Easter Egg Hunt event. Management is currently investigating the issue. We would like to assure our customers that we make every effort to provide highest standards and follow strict guidelines in procuring goods and services from our vendors.”

The Department of Agro Enterprise Development under the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Ho Technical University is to develop a 62-acre farm land owned by the University at Kodzobi in the Adaklu District to complement its training programmes.

Mr Phanuel Klogo, Head of the Department said the acreage would be developed to host facilities for 1000 broilers and layers, 500 goats and sheep as well as 300 cattle.

He said the plan included; a farm house and a restaurant, and that the project would be fully managed by the Department to offer students the needed opportunities in agriculture production and research. Mr Klogo said this when he opened a two-day learning and sharing forum on agriculture development held at the Esther Ocloo Demonstration Restaurant of the University, attended by some key players in the agro industry.

He said a 20-acre mango plantation and a mushroom house were currently on the land, and that the Department would establish an orchard and venture into fruit juice production. He said the Department would also invest in the commercial production of vegetables and other non-traditional products, and appealed for support from stakeholders. Mr Klogo said the Department had commissioned an Agro Enterprise Students Association (AGROSA), and was currently keeping about 100 poultry birds for supervised farm practicals.

He said a competency- based training approach had been adopted to equip students with sufficient agribusiness skills and knowledge for further educational advancement, and also to prepare them towards establishing careers in their chosen areas of specification.

The Departmental Head said industrial education tours and attachments were being regularly undertaken by students, and industry stakeholders and resource persons were also being engaged to motivate students.

Madam Paulina Adzoe, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology praised the efforts of the Department, noting that collaboration with industry was part of the University’s mandate.

“Such forums would help blur the lines between industry and academia, and erase the knowledge gap. They are key to our forward journey as a Technical University,” she said.

Industry stakeholders at the forum encouraged students to consider careers in agriculture, and take advantage of the training programmes to reap significantly from the ever expanding agro industry.

Afro-pop singer King Promise is pleading with his fans to vote massively for him in the 2019 VGMAs so that he can win all the categories he deserves.

King Promise was mocked last year on social media after he lost all his categories and he wouldn’t like that to happen again this year.

Speaking on Radio Central with Amansan Krakye on his nominations this year, he showed appreciation and recognized VGMA as the most prestigious scheme in Ghana.

“It shows we are doing something good. We were nominated last year and this year too, that’s a good thing, it means we are progressing. We got more nominations than last year, it means we are doing a good job and we won’t let anything pulls us down.

I’m very thankful because VGMA is a very prestigious awards ceremony. It’s the number 1 right here in Ghana so if they recognize your works it’s a plus so I’m very grateful.

The fans should vote so that we win what we deserve. If not they will laugh at us on Twitter like last year. Everyone should vote”, he said.

The “CCTV” singer also revealed that the number of awards he will win depends on the fans because they are the ones that will do the voting.

“I leave that to the fans, whichever one you think we deserve is in your hands. At the end of the day, you guys have the power to vote to help us win whichever awards we deserve. It’s all in the hands of the fans so you guys should go out to vote so we can win together”, he pleaded.

Jean Mensa's EC A Threat To Democracy - Asiedu Nketia

The bad blood between between the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission (EC) seems far from over.

It appears to be worsening by the day. The NDC has not hidden its concerns about the conduct of the electoral body in recent times and has openly criticised the EC over some of its decisions the party disagrees with.

A few days ago, the party kicked against limiting an upcoming limited registration exercise to the district level describing it as distasteful following the EC’s decision not to heed to the NDC’s request for decentralisation of the process.

General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, strongly believes the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa, harbours some prejudice against them.

"Somehow, I believe that because we expressed our opinion about her suitability or otherwise for the position when the appointment was made. She appears to be carrying that prejudice and she thinks that is a sufficient reason for denying us our rights. So we think that, the problem is about her attitude and not about the NDC,” he told the media.

After a recent IPAC meeting held on Wednesday, 24th April 2019, the opposition party condemned the posture of Madam Jean Mensa.

According to the NDC, Jean Mensa disrespected their General Secretary when she warned him against laughing at her comments. They further described her as a threat to the country’s democracy.

Reacting to this in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, Deputy EC Chair, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare said various comments and posture of the NDC points to the fact that they (NDC) ‘are rather the threat’.

“I think if there’s anyone who is becoming a threat to the democracy we are practicing in our country then I would rather say it has been the posture of the NDC since this new commission took over…we’ve seen a particular pattern on the side of the NDC. This is a commission which aims at enhancing our democracy,” he indicated.

Recounting what transpired at the meeting, he said: "in the process of the chairperson making her statement, Mr. Asiedu Nketia was giggling and the chairperson told him you are becoming a distraction; your actions are disrupting the meeting; that was one of the several things that occurred”… adding, "we are surprised they claim the chairperson was screaming…” he added.
