Nurses at Apoli, Akotekroom, Kokobeng
and Duokon, Health Centers in Birim South District have resort to using
torch lights and lamps to deliver babies due to lack of electricity.
According
to reports, most of the health centers in the area have no electricity
and those with electricity are also having challenges with the erratic
power supply, which is affecting health delivery.
In an interview
with Adom FM’s reporter Kwasi Azor, the District Director of Health
Services in Birim South, Vida Afua Afful, said the situation is
unbearable.
“We are really suffering in this town, pregnant
mothers who come at night are supposed to be delivered with the use of
torch lights and lamps which is very dangerous.
Vida Afua Afful
made these revelations during their Annual performance review 2014 at
Akyem swedru. She was however optimistic that her outfit would work
harder to improve upon health delivery systems in the town.
Vida
Afful appealed to traditional leaders, NGOs and philanthropists to
provide them generators and solar panels for effecitive health delivery.
