Controversial
politician and businessman Charles Kofi Wayo has advised the judge
hearing the case of rapper Kwaw Kese to temper justice with mercy and
not jail him, saying that the artist has changed.
Mr. Wayo said he hopes the judge understands now that Kwaw has changed and ought to be given another chance because he is popular and can preach to the youth about the dangers of getting involved with drugs.
He made this appeal during an interview on the Cruise Control on Hitz FM with Kwame B.
Asked why he was pleading on Kwaw Kese’s behalf, he said, “Kwaw has repented and the youth loves him so the judge should give him six months to go round the country and preach to the youth about how bad drugs are.”
According to Kofi Wayo, when the rapper was locked up, “he become a guest of the state and the state had to feed him. We also jail people here too much, custodial sentence is too much”.
Also known as Chuck, the businessman said, “But we should always respect the judges. Here we abuse judges and the big men abuse judges. A judge is like a small god. When you shake hands with a judge don’t you feel something? He or she is a very special person.”
On his view on the use of marijuana, Chuck said, “That is economics. See we don’t believe in economics we don’t believe in anything. The white man is looking for ways to make money to take care of his people, he came and told you marijuana is bad, right? But do you have a researcher who studies marijuana, you don’t so you have to take what the white man tells you.”
Born Emmanuel Botchwey, Kwaw Kese was arrested on November 22, 2014 at Nhyiaeso, a suburb of Kumasi, at a pub called Plus2 for allegedly smoking cannabis in public.
He will appear at the Kumasi Metropolitan Circuit Court on Friday, March 13 2015 for his next hearing which also marks exactly a year since the demise of his manager Fennec Okyere.
