On record as the last engineer to
have worked with hiplife artiste Castro before his disappearance on July
6, 2014, Appiah Dankwah popularly known as Appietus is uncertain about
the existence of the artiste.
He says Castro is not a fish to have stayed in water for this long.
In
a telephone interview on his works and memories of Castro on Hitz FM’s
Entertainment This Week with Mzgee, the sound engineer could only be
hopeful.
“Well I can’t really say anything, Castro is obviously
not a fish. If he is under the water he couldn’t have stayed there that
long or maybe he has amnesia. He’s lost all his memory and is somewhere.
We don’t know so we are yet to know if is alive or he is gone.”
Appietus
described Castro’s absence as a big loss to the Ghanaian music
fraternity, indicating that Castro was a reigning artiste who before his
disappearance had featured in all the big songs in the industry.
He stressed that the vacuum created by his disappearance is yet to be filled.
The
sound engineer who released a song by Castro earlier this year,
disclosed that he released Castro’s song titled ‘Medowo’ even though the
artiste was physically not present.
Even though the song is
doing quite well on the market and has received enough airplay, Appietus
said the song would have been better with Castro’s presence.
“Well
it did (well but) because of his absence, he had to be around to
promote it and because he (was) not, it dwindled. I can’t be doing the
promo, you know you have to shoot a video to it and all that and as he
is not around at some point, if the artiste is not around at some point,
it could drown, so that’s what happened”.
Appietus suggests that dividends of Castro’s collaborations be given to his family in his absence.
“…..
I don’t know the deal they signed with him but I mean if they should
play shows and Castro was on the song, some of the dividend should have
gone to the family or something but it depends on what contract they
signed maybe I will do a song for you, you will do a song for me, like
you do and in that case there’s no money or percentage share in the
end.”
