But there are a number of extremely rich people who are not in the spotlight on a regular basis, and are the masterminds behind some of the Ghanaian brands we all love to use. Some of them are responsible for corporations and programs that you’ve never heard of.
Either way, these millionaires and other well-off people don’t seem to mind that their names won’t be in the limelight any time soon.

Charles Ampofo 

1. Charles Ampofo – $1.46 Billion

Charles Ampofo is the Chairman and Founder of Kampac Group, which is headquartered in the business hub of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The Group engages in various activities and operates Kampac Oil as its primary business. Other companies under the Group include Kampac Properties, Kampac Travels, Kampac Flora, Kampac Telecom and Kampac Resources.

2. Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Odaymat – $850 Million

Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Odaymat is a Ghanaian of Lebanese descent. He owns BBC Industrial Company, the company responsible for Leyland and Leylac brand of paint products. He also owns Rana Motors and Metal Works Engineering and has several businesses across Ghana.

3. Alhaji Adamu Idrisu (Logistics, Banking)- $365 Million

He is the owner of Global Haulage Company Ltd that handles logistics for various companies across the world, and also owns Royal Bank. In 2013 alone, his company made truck acquisitions of 143 heavy duty vehicles and other equipment valued at over 20 million dollars. Global haulage limited is responsible for transporting 17% of Ghanaian cocoa to the ports. Alhaji Adamu also has various stakes in a number of publicly traded Club 100 companies.

A Ghanaian of Indian parentage, he has over the last decade expanded his Melcom network of super stores. He also does importation and exportation and is one of Ghana’s fastest rising millionaires.

5. Kwame Kyei (Petroleum, Minning)- $120 Million

He is best known as the owner of Pravda Radio, however he has more wealth than many can ever imagine. He is the owner of Unity Oil, a bulk oil storage and distribution firm. He also has investments in mining.

 6. Samir Kaloni – $55 Million

He owns a chain of food stores across the capital. Notably Papaye foods. He and his family also have investments in hotels in Accra and owns luxurious properties across the country.

Patrick Awuah

7. Patrick Awuah – $50 Million

The former Microsoft executive founded and owns Ghana’s most prestigious private university, Ashesi. He also owns a firm that provides IT solutions. His Ashesi University boasts of two ultra modern campuses with best state of the art infrastructure. He became a millionaire while working at Microsoft, spearheading software design for dial-up internet access.
