Highlife legend, Abrantie Amakye Dede has donated assorted items valued at GH¢15,000 to the Asante-Mampong Babies Home in the Ashanti region.

The items which included baby clothes, food items, toiletries and boxes of mineral water according to the musician, is his widow's mite towards making conditions at the Home more friendly and comfortable for the children in the month of love.

According to Amakye Dede, he was touched by the plight of the children and appealed to individuals, groups and organizations to come to the aid of the home. Aside the donation, the veteran musician who escaped death months ago, pledged to provide beds and basic social amenities to the orphage to make life.

Amakye Dede said he has noted some challenges bedevilling the Mampong Babies Home and was working hard to provide the needed support to them.

He pledged further assistance to the home, adding that he was proud to be associated with efforts at helping to take care of the socially disadvantaged.

The Mampong Babies Home was established in 1967 by the Sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete, a religious Order of the Anglican Church in response to constant requests and pleas, mostly from rural families of babies who had lost their mothers during delivery at the Mampong Maternity Hospital.

The orphanage which is the fourth in Ghana started with only four (4) orphans, but is currently taking care of more 50 orphans.

But resources to keep the centre running are not forthcoming as management decry the lack of beds and adequate funding to pay the fees of orphans who were in school.

Supervisor at the Mampong Babies’ Home, Madam Margaret Addae fear the facility could collapse if philanthropist and corporate organization don’t come to their aid.

She commended Amakye Dede for the kind gesture and pray God grant him long life to continue to show interest in the welfare of the children.

Madam Addae also called on philanthropists, corporate bodies and government to come to their aid to avert closure.
