I live a lonely life – Grace Nortey

After 40 years in the movie industry, veteran actress Grace Nortey is still worried about how things are being handled in the industry.

Professionalism is low, mediocre productions, no vibrant association for movie makers, interest in the Actors guild has dwindled, nobody pays dues to the guild anymore and above all movie makers in Ghana don’t have a welfare fund she intimated.

According to her, acting in Ghana was no longer as challenging as it used to be in her days. This, she noted, was due to the predominance of poor and unethical film directors in the industry.

Speaking to Kwame Buckman, the host of Top Showbiz on Top 103.1fm on Saturday 13th February 2016, Grace Nortey revealed how lonely it get since she is a widow with no movie roles and the young movie makers hardly find time to come visit her. “The Actors Guild is in its worst state now since the young movie makers are not interested in joining, and the older ones seem to have lost interest in the guild” ... “Meetings are not being attended just as much as dues are not being paid,” she added.

“We need to have a fund which is targeted to the welfare of aged members. These young ones might be strong and energetic today, but in a few years, they will be as old as I am and will be in need of this fund. Now is the time to start taking interest and contributing” she stated

She concluded that actors and actresses must also endeavor to come under one umbrella and foster unity among themselves, adding that such a move would help contribute to a more organized industry.
