Ghanaian Afro Pop, Dancehall and Reggae superstar, Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly referred to as Stonebwoy has stirred controversy after the recently held VGMAs insisting that he was surprised EL won Artiste of the Year award.
Stonebwoy, who made his maiden appearance on Ghana’s biggest celebrity and lifestyle show, Celebrity Fanzone on Viasat1 last Saturday, disclosed that even before the awards, several artistes commended him for his hard work and was expectant that he was going to retain his crown but unfortunately, he lost out to colleague musician, EL.
Asked whether he was disappointed when EL won the biggest prize on the night, Stonebwoy responded,
“I was not disappointed but I was surprised. Before the show, I told EL in New York that ‘Charley, if I didn’t win, you have to win’…..I got compliments from some of the artistes...it was obvious. Before the awards, it was recognizable…by fellow artistes who said, ‘you do aa…this year you want to win the thing again.’ “If I took myself out of the nominees and I think like a fan, I will be like…‘the guy [referring to himself] has to take this year again.’”
Stonebwoy also recounted some of his experiences in 2015; beginning from the time he won the BET Award to his shows and performances around the world especially his performance at the MAMAs.
Stonebwoy picked up only two awards during the 2016 VGMAs; Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of The Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of The Year, but insisted that his fans should expect bigger hits this year. If you missed it, catch a rerun of Celebrity Fanzone this Wednesday at 11am on Viasat1.
