I Don’t Rely On My Past Glories – Sarkodie
Since the spotlight fell on him some seven years ago after the release of his hit single Baby, rapper Sarkodie has been consistent by churning out hit upon hit and he attributes this feat to not dwelling on his past glories. The Adonai hitmaker who has risen to become one of the biggest crowd pulling artistes in recent times believes his desire to improve upon previous works has resulted in him still remaining relevant.“I don’t rely on my previous hits but always want to give my fans the best of myself with anything i bring out.I guess that explains the reason I have been around all this while” Sarkodie told Showbiz in an interview last week.

He explained that to be constistent and relevant, a musician should not be satisfied with his previous achievemnts but work harder to drop more great songs.

“I don’t get swollen headed and think I should relax just because everyone is hailing me. I rather push myself to make my subsequent productions better than previous ones” the 2010 BET Best African Act winner added.

The multiple award winning musician disclosed that fans naturally get fed up over a period of time ‘thus as an artiste, if you do not up your game constantly, you will gradually fade into oblivon with time.”

When asked of his favourite song among his repertoire, Sarkodie born Michael owusu addo said” It will be difficult to say which of my works is my favourite. This is because whenever I am done with a production, I move on to the next one”.

Asked of his take on the perception out there that Nigerian musicians are better than Ghanaian musicians, the father of one said he did not believe that.

“Nigerians also enjoy our music just as we do theirs but the difference is that, the Nigerian government invest heavily in their entertainment industry which is the reason they are all over the place but I don’t believe they are better than us” Sarkodie.

Sarkodie started his music career with the Hammer of Last Two. His first major hit was Baby featuring Mugeez of R2Bees.

Since then, Sarkodie has released countless of hit songs some of which are Adonai, Megye Wo Girl, Love Rocks, Chingum, Whine Fi Me, Good Bye, One Time For Your Mind, You Go Kill Me, Living Legend and Onyame Nhyira.

Sarkodie who has worked with international and local artistes such as Wizkid, Fuse ODG, Tiwa Savage, Acehood, Banky W, AKA has four albums to his credit.
