Wa Gets Ready For Wiyaala’s Djimba World Music Festival
Several posters have been spotted in the Upper West capital Wa, advertising singer Wiyaala’s inaugural Djimba World Music Festival, which crowns an extensive world tour which has seen her perform to audiences in  Wales, Hull, London, Hamburg, Los Angeles, among other destinations.Slated for Friday, 23rd December, the Afro-pop singer hopes the concert, which features several northern-based acts, will afford them much needed -exposure.
“Our focus in this first year of the festival is to shine the light on musicians in the region who do not get national exposure. I am disappointed that we have not yet been able to find at least one other female from the region to perform this year. This is something we will address in future festivals”, she says in a press statement released ahead of the concert.
Backed by the Djimba World Band,  the concert is slated for the Wa Community Centre, and will also feature many surprise acts. An undisputed highlight of Wiyaala’s year is her recent performance with idol Yvonne Chaka Chaka at the African Legends Night, September 24.
Other acts expected to perform include local musicians, El Twist, Samson B, Ras Badingu, Jah Bone, Jack Still, Game Bwoy, C.T.Y, Young Ghally, George Cliff,  Apaco, as well as Stevo Atimbre.
Abu Issah Seidu AKA DJ Nelgee has been announced as MC for the night.
The festival will take place at 8pm on Friday, 23rd December at the Wa Community Centre, Wa, Upper West Region.
Noella Wiyaala (known under the stage name Wiyaala)  sings in her native Sissala and Waale dialects, as well as English. She shot to national prominence as member of Ghanaian band Black N Peach (winners of Vodafone ICONS 2012). She has since gone solo and become a global performer. She’s currently brand ambassador for PepsiCo in West Africa, as well as Converse All Stars  for Ghana since 2014.
She’s currently signed to Djimba World Records, and JTV Digital.
