Highlife artiste Ofori Amponsah has in an interview with Flex
newspaper opined that highlife music isn’t dead. Ofori Amponsah
explained that the only music holding Ghana as a country culturally is
highlife but it’s been washed away by different genres adopted by the
current youth but to highlife lovers, the genre isn’t dead.
He went on to say that highlife is still relevant as others except that it has not been able to attain that international recognition. He believes it is still on course even though it has been combined with rap changing its face to hip-life.
Ofori Amponsah also named some top highlife musicians including Kwabena Kwabena, Daddy Lumba, Wutah Afriyie, Bisa K Dei as tough soldiers leading the genre atop. He finally asked of the support of Ghanaians for the genre highlife as they do for other music genres so to win an international award.
