Ghanaian Highlife artiste Bisa Kdei over the weekend joined the folks at Hot 97, a flagship American radio station in New York City, U.S.A noted for its promotion of hiphop music.
He spoke about highlife music as an authentic Ghanaian music genre and his career.
Prior to the interview, he performed at a sold-out show in the state. His management tell livefmghana.com, he will perform in three more states before heading to the United Kingdom for a concert on Independence Day.
Born Ronald Kweku Dei, he gained mainstream attention with the soundtrack for the movie ‘Azonto Ghost’ which got him a ‘Best Movie Soundtrack of the Year’ award at the 2012 Ghana Movie Awards.
Since then he has released about a dozen singles which have all gained massive rotation on mainstream radio and Television.
He has collaborated with the likes of Sarkodie, D Black, Efya, Obrafour, and Kwaw Kese. He recently recorded a song with Nigerian act, Davido.
Kdei has also headlined a number of shows in Ghana and outside the country.
His second album ‘Breakthrough’ was released last year to great praise by industry watchers and music fans.
He won four awards: ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’, ‘Highlife Song of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’ at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards.
Kdei was also nominated at the 2015 African Entertainment Awards in the ‘Best Male International Act’ category.
He won ‘Video of The Year’ award at the 2016 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).
