Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is now the highest paid player in Indonesia with a reported yearly wages of $647,000 at Persib Bandung.
The 33-year-old joined Persib as the Club’s biggest ever signing early this month.
Essien according to reports has outmanned former Australian star Sergio van Dijk who previously received $337,000 to become the highest paid player in the Indonesian top-flight.
“Some of you have known Essien’s contract, he’s now the highest-paid footballer in Indonesia,” Persib team manager Umuh Muchtar said on Wednesday (15/03), as quoted by state-news agency Antara.
The Ghanaian international moved to the Asian country after six months without a Club having terminated his contract with Greek side Panathiniakos.
He has also enjoyed stints with AC Milan and Real Madrid.
