Ras Kuuku Explains VGMA Saga

Ras Kuuku Explains VGMA Saga

Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is the biggest event on the Ghanaian entertainment calendar which aims to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of the various players in Ghana’s music industry.
The 18th Edition of the VGMA which took place last Saturday at the Accra International Conference Centre encountered few hitches but ended up successfully. Ghanaian Raggae/Dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku known in real life as Kojo Kurankye is one artiste who stormed out of the auditorium after Stonebwoy was mentioned as the Raggae/Dancehall artiste of the year.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Flex newspaper, the Nwansina hit maker confirmed that he stormed out of the auditorium because he felt cheated since he knew how hard he worked last year. According to him, he went to the event to receive an award and when his name was not mentioned he felt very disappointed and decided to walk out of the auditorium.

“I felt cheated and decided to storm out shouting “Akronfuor”. I still feel cheated because I knew the Raggae/Dancehall category was a must win for me this year. Last year for instance, even though I was nominated with a very good song “Show Them Love”, I knew Stonebwoy did better with his Baafira song so I didn’t have any problem with him winning. Every interview I granted I made it clear anywhere that he deserved to win. It’s not easy rising from the ghettos. I have been improving since the release of my Adiebekyi song. I needed to win to encourage myself and the upcoming ghetto youth who are willing to do music,” he stated.

Again, Ras Kuuku believed he deserved nomination in the male vocalist of the year category because comparing the winner who happens to be the reigning artiste of the year Joe Mettle’s voice to that of his shows clearly he is far better. He urged Charter House, organizers of the VGMA to work on mistakes because they have come a long way.

Meanwhile, Ras Kuuku who had 3 nominations but won none in the just ended 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is not resting at all. He is yet to release a brand new banger titled “Zeafi” which features Okyeame Kwame.
