Gospel Musicians Fighting Over Awards Shamful – Abena Ruthy
Each year, most musicians complain bitterly when nominees and winners for the annual Ghana music awards are announced.A group of artistes who surprise the public when they are heard expressing disgust about the awards are gospel musicians. Ghanaian gospel musician Abena Ruthy has joined many Ghanaians to bemoan actions by her fellow gospel artistes who express dissatisfaction about the decision by the board of the awards.

“I see it as a disgrace if my fellow gospel musician fights another because of an award. If you do so then are you telling the world that this is what you came for? Is it that you don’t regard the blood that was shared on the cross for you anymore but rather prefer the temporal niceties of the world?

Why would you fight someone over a talent you didn’t give to yourself? Abena Ruthy asked.

“For me it is a huge indictment on our calling for us to fight for awards” she raged.

The banker who believes awards are a feather in one’s cup and a boost to one’s career, further advised her colleagues to support whoever wins it when it does not go in their favour. She added that there is nothing greater than God endorsing you with his anointing to affect many lives.

“We are here to complement one another but not to compete with ourselves. The successes we chalk should not make us think nobody can do what we are doing”

Abena Ruthy launches her second album titled “Higher Praise” on January 29 this year at the National Theater at 2pm.

Musicians expected to support Abena Ruthy at the “Higher Praise” album launch on January 29 are Ohemaa Mercy, SP Kofi Sarpong, Cece Twum, Nacee, Joyce Blessing, Joe Mettle, Bernice Offei, Mary Ghansah, Francis Amo, Faffa, Ewurabena and many others.

The seven-track album, “Higher Praise” has songs like “Aseda”, “Going Higher”, “Mewhewonknoa” and many others.
