Child Rights International (CRI) Ghana has started an online petition to get signatories to have the state speed up efforts in rescuing the three kidnapped girls in Takoradi in the Western Region.
Families of the victims had the shock of their lives on Wednesday, April 24 when police announced that the girls have not been found contrary to media reports.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, had lifted hopes earlier in the month by announcing that the police know where the girls are. But after the official denial by the police, the families of the missing girls have stepped up pressure to have the state agency to tell them about the whereabouts of the girls.
The girls are Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 15, Ruth Love Quayson, 18, and Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21.
So far, one suspect, Samuel Wills, a Nigerian, has been picked up and standing trial over the case.
“It has been almost nine months since three girls went missing in Takoradi,” the online petition by CRI Ghana read.
“Efforts by the family to get information from the police regarding their status has proven futile.
“We [are] seeking your signature in order to increase support for the state to have interest in the case.”
After two hours, the petition had more than 50 signatories and still counting.
Parliament and Office of the President have been cited in the petition.
